Kinja'd!!!

I just had a bunch of Netbooks given to me.

Some are HP Mini 311 and some are Samsung N150s.

I’m resetting them 5 at a time to get ready for EBay.

Kinja'd!!!

I have about 80 right now with a few more coming.

If all goes right I’ll have enough play money for a new toy in the driveway before Snow flies!

Holy crap. How on earth did you find someone to just give you those? And what’s the estimated sale price for each one? That’s ridiculously easy money right there, and I am super jealous.

Where does one even begin to find 80 netbooks?

For some reason that car board box labeled as Memory Box is kind of sad.

There was a little dumpster diving involved.

And then a lot of checking to make sure I wouldn’t be going to jail..

I have to research pricing. EBay is showing them anywhere for $100-$150 shipped. I’d have to price on appearance but only after making sure they all reset to factory.

Those HP mini BIOS’s can be flashed to allow overclocking. Had one that worked pretty well. The resolution wasn't dismal like other netbooks.

So you’re saying you picked $8-$12k out of the garbage? And I’m about to go to work at 4 am like a fucking idiot...

I was told to put them in the dumpster. Then I made sure it was OK to grab them back out.

Getting to work at 4am is a bitch but it has it’s high points.

I’m actually impressed with these little guys. I tried loading Ubuntu on one but it’s not going well.

I’m in the same boat. The only real upside for me is unlimited OT.

There will be. I want to go through each one first. Check the battery life, speed and look for any other hiccups. They’re not really useful if they have to be plugged in all the time.

Yeah I’m curious about this too, I need a cheap laptop, my ecu programmer doesn’t work with 8 or 10. I need something for car stuff, and barebones and small would fit the bill.

gotta love corporate waste. We have an “e-waste” bin that is like a grab bag for spare computer parts.

It’s bad and good. Mostly bad because of poor management.

Same. As a workaround I’m booting 7 off a usb but I’m terrified I’m going to bump it and brick my ecu or my programmer.

my company just offloads tons of scrap for nothing, word has it, because there would be too much paperwork to decide which department the money would go to. Decent management, just too big to care about the small stuff.

Yeah. They have to keep the total cost in mind. Re-selling or donating might pull too much from the projected budget. In the end that’s what it’s all about. Nobody wants a negative in their department.

Often it has more to do with tax law. If they are fully depreciated assets, selling them would change the residual value and screw up the books. It’s easier and cheaper to dump them than deal with the paperwork.

Our IT dept has stacks of 2-year old iPhones that came off contract....

I’ve never been that deep in IT. I didn’t think of the Taxes associated.

I was lower middle management in “multi family housing” and we just dumped stuff so our budgets didn’t get cut. Which always happened anyway.
